Sidebar in Finder

While dragging files using Finder, I inadvertently dropped a file name into my Sidebar under "Places" (my finger slipped on the track pad). I realize this is a shortcut to the file rather than the file itself. It is sitting there between "Desktop" and "Pictures."

How do I get rid of this shortcut? I've tried dragging it out of the sidebar or dragging it into trash, but it immediately pops back into the original place. I cannot highlight the name in the sidebar to delete it. I have even re-saved the original file under a different name and deleted the original from my machine. But the shortcut remains. And I've opened all the sidebar tools to no avail.

Trivial, but highly frustrating. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Hold down your Command key and drag it to the desktop and drop it there. It should go "Poof" and disappear.
