How does one Open Firmware on a Mac OS X 10.5.8? I have a CD stuck in my drive and this is my last resort.

Hold down the Control-Command-Option-Eject buttons which will shut the computer down.

Power the computer back up and hold Command-Option-O-F which should boot you into open firmware.

Now type "eject cd" and see if that ejects it.

When finished, type "mac boot" and osx will boot up normally.

If that doesn't work, you can also try holding down either the left-click mouse button or eject key during startup which will also force the system to eject any discs in the optical drive.

If none of this works, the drive is probably experiencing a mechanical failure of some sort. Take it to a repair shop and have them open it to retrieve the disc.

And if this is a MacBook, MacBook Pro or iMac, you can bet the slot loading optical drive has or is failing.
