so I tried installing 2gb ram and it showed only 1gb?

I am installing from the centre out with the same size ram sticks

anyone can tell me why it is doing this

Make sure you are fully inserting the ram sticks into the slots. You actually have to push them in with a little force (but not too much - dont break them!). You should hear and feel them click into place then you can flip the latches back closed to keep them sealed in.

You have to install the chips in matching pairs and in the correct slots

THere should be to baks of ram slots, so place one chip on the top and its pair in the same slot in the bottom bank

And where did you get the memory? G5's are very fussy about low density Mac compatible modules. Do not use high density modules for PCs.
