Superdrive Problems

Had no problems from new, but iMac now loads DVD's ok but will not mount a CD

Don't understand it - Disk Utility shows Superdrive but it is greyed out and the CD icon does not mount.

Also, iTunes normally opens up automatically but now not doing so.

Any ideas please ?

You can try cleaning the optical drive in your iMac. Sometimes it works, but most times it does not and the drive has to be replaced. Buy a can of compressed air at Wal-Mart or any place that sells them and blow a couple of short blasts into the drive opening. Optical drives on Macs are highly susceptible to failure since they are slot loaders.
