• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hi,
I have an old Macbook using version 10.5.8. And in the last three days I can no longer play videos on youtube. The video 'screen' remains black and with no transport controls visible (see attached screenshot). This is happening with every video I look at now. Before it always worked fine. Even my old Powerbook still plays videos (albeit slowly!). My new MacBook Pro is also fine. So it's just this Macbook. I have checked if I need any software updates but none are showing up.
Some help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gordon

but yes....will give that a try.....thanks for reminding me.

any ideas why this is happening now to people? Did youtube change something recently?

It's probably Flash, not YouTube. Flash gets updated constantly for stability and security problems. That's part of the reason there is such a push to get rid of it.

Bingo.....look what I found here:

YouTube

I'd been selected automatically to be part of a trial for html 5 which I'm guessing was done just a few days ago without telling me.

At the bottom of the page it says 'leave the html 5 trial' and hey presto...the videos now work.....I will share this on the other forums

Thanks all
