Hey everyone.

Is the Seagate Savvio 2.5 inch hard drive compatible with a 2010 MacBook Pro?

One like this

I want the most powerful drive available to me, without making the leap to SSD.

I prefer speed over capacity; i have plenty external storage.

Before I seen the Savvio, I was going to get this Seagate Momentus XT 750Gb

What are people's views on this??

Best,

That's a lot of money for a 10,000 RPM drive. You may also want to get some user experience with that drive; specifically - how noisy is it? Is there excessive vibration? Also I just noticed something about it:

Product Dimensions: 10 x 7 x 1.5 cm ; 204 g

Your MacBook Pro hard drive cavity is designed for drives that are:

2.5" (6.35 cm) wide and no thicker than 9.5 mm. The above drive is not suitable. However the Seagate Momentus should be OK.

Thanks very much for your input!

Ahh dimensions. I didn't think about that. I just assumed a 2.5 drive would fit.

So are the savvios designed more towards PC laptops?

I'll stick with the Momentus then. It seems to be the fastest drive I can get without going into SSD territory...

The Savvio drives are great drives designed more for gaming rigs. Specifically something like the Alienware gaming rigs sold by Dell. Big bucks for those rigs, by the way.
