iTunes playlist issue

I run the latest iOS on my mac and iPhone 4 plus use iTunes Match and cloud back up.

I created a playlist on my mac that I cannot sync or see on my iPhone even after directly connecting my phone to my mac? What am I doing wrong or how do get the playlist to my phone?
