Help needed (New iMac 2012)

Okay so i'm going to purchase the new iMac in the very near future, however I'm slightly undecided.

I want to go for the "21.5-inch: 2.9GHz" iMac however I am debating on spending a little more and adding the "3.1GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz" processor to it rather than the standard 2.9GhHz i5 processor.

What i want to know is, is it worth the extra money and what your personal opinions are is there much difference in performance?

My advice, buy the most processor you can afford since it is not something you can upgrade later on. Unfortunately, the same is true for the RAM in the new 21.5" iMacs. It is not user upgradable, so you have to get the upgrade done at build time.

You could potentially do the upgrade yourself if you take the iMac apart, but we'll have to wait for some good tear down pictures to figure out the complexity of the task and the ease of getting the appropriate RAM chips..

Thanks for the advice! that is very true, i think i will have to go for the i7 processor! but is the RAM really necessary. My friend told me not to worry about adding 16gb's as i would have plenty with 8gb's..?

Trust us.... go for the 16 GB of memory. As you were told above, buy the most machine you can afford now. The 21.5" iMac like the MacBook Air and Retina machines is not designed to be user upgradeable.
