I want to try Non ECC ram in my Mac Pro 2009 2.66 Quad. I can buy 4 8GIG sticks at Micro Center for less than $100. The ECC type if it can be had in this size is close to $400.00. Can some one tell me a draw back to using the non ECC RAM?

I'm sure you have heard the term…"If it sounds too good to be true…it probably is." If you can buy 32gig (of probably the wrong ram) for less than $100 for your Mac Pro (and OWC sells 32gig of the correct ram for $269)…don't you think everyone would do what you're thinking of doing??;)

Basically the ram probably won't work…then you will have to make another trip to Micro Center to return the ram!:(

But hey…give it a shot…and let us know how it turns out.:)

Yeah, it probably won't work. ;) We've already had folks try to use non ECC ram in their Mac Pro and wound up returning it for the correct modules. Good advice from Nick.
