missing sound control icon

My sound control icon in the menu bar has disappeared.
Sound is available OK, just no menu bar control icon.
I have*iMac OS X 10.6.8

Suggestions?

Go to the Sound preference pane and click where it says "show in menu bar".

Try repairing permissions. Open Disk Utility, in Utilities, and click repair Permissions.

I went back to the preference pane, and I was able to open sound icon. Thanks for the help!
