A few days ago I encountered a problem with my USB ports. None of them are working, and every time I start my computer I get this notification on my desktop. I run Mount Lion 10.8.2.
I have a MacBook Pro 15' Mid 2012. 2.3Ghz 4GB RAM.
I have already tried re-installing my OS but nothing worked. I would appreciate any help!

I get this message even though there is nothing plugged in the USB ports

Here's a thread on Apple's discussion boards about this same problem. Read it through.

Be sure you have everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, unplugged from the MacBook's ports. If you continue to get the error, then the suggestions from this post would be the best steps available:

If you stop getting the error after unplugging everything, then obviously one of those devices should be the culprit. I believe it may also be possible to get this error if you have so many devices connected that they, as a group, are drawing too much power. If that is the case, then you need to be looking at using a powered USB hub.

I already checked that thread but it was no help to me. I tried to do SMC and ran the full diagnostics check, but it did not indicate any problems. And my USB ports are still not working and I keep getting the same message every time I turn on my MacBook

Did it begin to appear when you plugged in a particular device? It looks like you have a hardware malfunction since OS X seems to think there is a device plugged in that is drawing a lot of power. If none of the USB ports are working, the hardware malfunction seems to be affecting all the USB ports..

Since this is a 2012 MBP, you have AppleCare coverage. I would promptly make an appointment with the Apple Store and take it in before you mess around with it too much and let them figure it out..

It started after i started using a cooling pad for my computer. I used for a while but not frequently. I went to an apple centre today and advised me to go to geniuses because it definitely seems to be a hardware issue.
