macbook prod doesn't recognize my external hard disks

My new macbook pro doesn't recognize my external hard disks, could anyone please help me?
No idea what he F* I should do..

They do not mount at all?

Have these externals got their own power supply and are you connecting directly to a USB port or through a hub?

Make sure you select "Show Hard Drives" from the Finder Preferences, General Tab. Place a check mark in the box. Unless you check that off, the drives will not show on the desktop.

The external HDDS are formatted properly for Mac use, correct?
