Hi,

I have just bought my first mac. I have it for music and photography but a random thought hit me: Can I pop a DVD into a superdrive and then watch it through my Apple TV?

I have a load of Commercial DVDs I have purchased over the years and it would be great to use them in this way.

Problem - Having spent £££££ on my new toy, buying a superdrive was one step too far this month. I'm sure I will get one, but if someone could just confirm this for me it would make the case a little more robust when I talk to the wife, I mean my financial advisor :) And do I need anything else - software/hardware?

So in summary:
Can I play a commercial DVD on my Superdrive and view it on Apple TV?

Thanks in advance

Hi Surf3Mac,

Didn't put specification as I wasn't sure whether that would help. Anyway here it is:

Okay, I bought a Superdrive and tried Display/airplay mirroring and it didn't work. A little further research suggested that the Mac DVD player did not allow this functionality. I was lead to the VLC player. Playing my DVD through this free utility allowed me to view my commercial DVDs on my TV using Apple TV2.

I hope this helps...
