MacBook power source

my macbook power source flashes red (amber?) or is dark. It will not go green. The wall power source is good, but I'm not receiving power to the machine. Is the cord bad or is it something worse??

First thing I would try is cleaning the contacts on both the mag safe connector & the MacBook.
