iMac G4 speeding up tips

Hey guys,

my iMac G4 is getting really archaic for today's standards but I don't want to throw it away yet, as the design is still stunning. Anyway, it handles everything ok but iTunes are slow and some old games (the sims) are not as snappy. The configuration is 700 mhz and 384 mb ram. Will adding 1GB of ram speed it up? It's pretty cheap nowadays anyway so $20 would be enough. It's running on 10.4.11

Best bet is just to run disk utility and do both a permissions repair and verify disk for starters

Also, try downloading the 10.4.11 power PC update from Apple, that can refresh a system install

Definitely add some RAM. 384MB RAM is nothing.

I'd also download/run OnyX.

It will take 1GB of PC133 memory and that will make a huge difference. Imagine it is 256MB factory fitted and 128MB user adjustable. Make sure it is Mac compatible low density. Have a look at OWC:-
