Macbook (2006/7?) RAM

Hi Mac Forums!

I'm looking at throwing a bit more RAM for basic recording into my very old Macbook. System profiler tells me it's a MacBook2,1, Intel 2 Duo, 2.16GHz processor with 1 core. To the best of my knowledge I could run up to 6g's by taking out one of the 2g cards behind the battery and replacing it with a 4g Is DDR3 the correct sort to use? I'm afraid I'm a bit out of my depth here, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same model, it will only take a max of 3GB, PC-5300s DDR667 RAM. It runs Lion, but will go no further.

If it's an Intel "Core 2 Duo"…then it has 2 cores (not one)…that's why it's called a "Core 2 Duo".

Not if it's a MacBook (2,1), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz. Max ram on this is 4gig (only 3.25 is addressable). You actually haven't told us how much ram it has currently??

Yeah, I'm on Snow Leopard and will no doubt have to upgrade sooner rather than later.

Ah my bad! It shipped with 4g.

I think that there may be some confusion here. Did you purchase this computer new (back in 2006/2007)?

This model MacBook never shipped with 4gig of ram…since officially from Apple…max. ram is/was only 2gig.

Yep! Once again misread the specs, it is only 2g. Hmm maybe I should go to bed...

Ok…good deal. As "techiesteve" and I mentioned above…this computer can be upgraded to 4gig (2 x 2gig sticks)…but only around 3gig is addressable.

You can either use one of the links above to purchase more ram…or your favorite local store.

I'm not sure where you are located…but if you're talking about "bed"…maybe you're in the UK…and it's around 10pm.
