Hi, i dropped my macbook recently, and the hinge has come loose in the last few weeks.

I have taken the lid apart and it seems the alluminium frame that surrounds the lid has split in the bottom corner where it is screwed to the lid. It looks like its been glued to the lid aswel.

Can i replace just this part? I cant find anything that is just the frame only the entire lid..

Alternatively, if i used epoxy on the break and behind the lid, what are the chances of standing up?

The model is a Nov 2008 Unibody 15"

Thanks

You really have a 15" MacBook Pro unibody Late 2008 model not a MacBook. Anyway, I believe you're going to have to replace the entire lid. You might find one at a decent price on eBay. Take a look at the replacement instructions at iFixit: The free repair manual.

You will have to replace the entire display which is not going to be very cheap, probably anywhere from 600 to 1000 dollars.

OK so heres an update. Seeing as the old clamshell was useless if i was replacing it i thought i would try to repair it

I used slow drying epoxy and allowed it to cure for 72 hours. I actually used epoxy on the break point and glued the screw in place aswel.

Reassembled and wallah! Good as new.

There doesn't seem to be any stress on the joint atall so i think it will hold up.
