Java????

I need some help - I just got a new Emac and its my first Mac ever. and well I like the machine so far its great , but there is one site i have difficulties with. I'm having problems with a java applet in gay.com I can get the the little pop up connected window and when i click "Enter chat" button , which is supposed to open a full list of locatins then cities , well nothing happens . I also checked the preferences that have been indicated to me on the chat help guide but still its not workking * I have even dowloaded the new version of Java 1.41 and nothing is happening, just wondering if anyone has the same problem and well can propose a solution or than Virtual PC for mac? Can someone help me??
