ssh only works in safemode

like the title says, im trying to connect to a remote server, but ssh only works in safemode. the connection works in windows, so i know its not on the server end.

i always get a "operation time out". im using osx 10.7.5

i dont want to boot up in safemode all the time i need to ssh or use windows. so what can i do with out doing a clean install? how do i enable or fix ssh?
