Apple TV - 1st generation - update software?

I just purchased an ATV1 and it has software version 1.1. Should this be updated to the latest software? Currently I'm not able to see movies listed or rent movies in iTunes. I'm a little hesitant to update the software in case I shouldn't have and I'm not able to return to the older version.

Yes. Version 1.1 is rather old, even for that model ATV. The 2.0 software is a significant improvement anyway, if I recall correctly.

3.0.2 is the last software for the Apple TV 1.
