Why is it that I never had problems viewing PDF files with my Mac Mini? I can't view PDF files with this new iMac.

Mac Mini i5 (2014 High Sierra), iPhone X, Apple Watch, iPad Pro 12.9, AppleTV (4)
So they won't open in Preview? Error messages? Clues?
