Your iMac is a Mid 2007 machine with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT or ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics card.

The machine does not have enough memory to run Sims 3 and especially the additions. You really need to max out the memory in that machine (it can take 6 GB). The graphics should be OK, perhaps a bit slow on frame rate but certainly playable.

I need the laptop memory even though I don't have a laptop? It works for a desktop?

It doesn't matter. Your machine uses this memory: (It's the same for the iMac as it is for notebooks.)

Memory Slots: 2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

Just buy those modules and you should be fine. As stated... your machine can take up to 6 GB which means you'll need 1 x 4 GB module and 1 x 2 GB module.

If that combo is too expensive, go with 2 x 2 GB modules for a total of 4 GB of memory. That should also be OK to run those games.

And as "chscag" said, they decided to use the smaller laptop chips to save space and improve upgradeability.

If you want to order the 4GB and 2GB kit / the 2GB and 2GB kit, then I can link you to a professional guide on installing it with video and pictures. It's 2 screws on the bottom access door, so anyone can do it. It's simple and with the guide, you will save money by installing it yourself.

Also, You rrreeeaaalllyyy should upgrade to Lion (10.7.5), as SL has lost support.

You can buy a bootable flash drive (Insanley Priced), or for 7 bills, you can do it yourself (Again, Using My Guide)

Link for guide: Upgrading my iMac to 4gb of Ram - YouTube

Have you ordered the RAM yet??
