Way... way too many specs to list.
Fixed that for you. ;)
Yes, as odd as it would seem to many. Being an American seems to equal fewer consumer rights these days. The dmca really sold us down the digital river.

Soon, no more installing Linux on a computer you own as MS implements firmware OS boot locks.

Wouldn't this apply to rooting Android devices as well? Or am I totally confused here?

It does apply to Android devices as well.

And holds the line on ripping DVDs you own.

I wanted to mention that these rules concerning jailbreaking & unlocking mentioned in the article linked in post #1 are actually now in effect. The article says that the rules go into effect October 28, 2012.

In direct violation of the previously existing 'fair use' doctrine. My favorite part of this is that, much like drug law in the US, it's not legislatively created. But created by a non-elected entity. Brilliant! Completely, and utterly, non-accountable to the electorate!

Too many...
In other words, there are rules, and people will still care less.
It won't change anything.

Except that now we aren't going to be able to talk or discuss unlocking or jailbreaking in our forums. Remember folks, these forums adhere to US law whether we like it or not. As for the DMCA and their nonsense, remember that on November 6th when you vote for your congressman or senator who went along with passing that law. ;D

Well, technically it'd be allowed to talk about jailbreaking a phone, just not a tablet if I read the summary right... Either way, DMCA is definitely one of the worst pieces of legislation out there that needs to be dealt with.

Oh, so this confuses me:
In a decision that some might call “crazy,” the Register has decided that tablets may not be jailbroken, even though smartphones are exempt. Their reason? Because dang near anything could be considered a “tablet” these days, including e-readers, handheld game consoles, or even laptops.
Have these people seen the Galaxy Note? Technically that's a phone but that's closer to a tablet than any other device in that list. In fact, every phone is especially when you include tablets that have 3G/LTE capabilities.
