Problems booting from CD...

Hi all,

I have inherited an old Apple iMac G3 500MHz running OSX 10.2
(blue/grey if that is relevant - don't laugh, I've seen the colour
referenced loads in the forums !!), and want to play with one of the Linux Live CD's on it.

I have burned off the ppc version of the CD, but cannot
get the Mac to boot from CD.

After trawling the web for ideas, I have tried holding the following
key combinations down during the boot sequence with no success:

1) C
2) Alt
3) CTRL-C (this gives me a boot prompt eventually for the OSX shell)
4) command-opt-shift-del (I haven't even got these keys on the
keyboard, so I tried every feasible combination of control, apple and
alt keys with shift and delete - nothing worked).

I have also tried mounting the CD within OSX and selecting it from the Start up Disk menu, but the CD does not show up as bootable. I have tried this with two different Linux Live CD's for the PPC.

Any other ideas?? I know it *must* be possible...

Thanks.

Anyway, in case anyone is interested, (you never know, someone may want to upgrade their OS) I found the answer on a different forum:

Hold in the 'programmers button' on the side of the mac with a pen whilst rebooting - this brings up the 'Open Firmware prompt. Type

Type:
boot cd:,\\:tbxi

Hit enter and the CD should boot. Worked like a charm for me.
