Oh thank heavens! It's time to get rid of this skeuomorphism trend. It's an aesthetic abomination. The fact that Ive prioritizes minimalism over anything else is even better.

I don't use Google's Android…but doesn't Android have skeuomorphism as well, or is Apple the only one?

I love the look, but I'll say it honestly - Apple, you've taken it a bit too far.

If Android does, it's not in anything I've seen. Google has very much applied a "techy" look to the Holo theme which has precluded them from applying the principles of skeuomorphism.

I just hope he doesn't adopt the principles of function follows form, as he does in hardware. Some of Apple's UIs are too minimalist (Safari is a great example)...

I like the skeuomorphic look (probably the only post I'll ever make with this term). ;)

I love Safari's minimalism. I can't stand it when web browsers take up space for nothing.
I hope he does good!

What are you talking about? You posted the following once, saying that it was your browser. :p

If we abandon Skeuomorphism, my vote is we replace it with Steampunk.

No way, you need the ultra minimalist look:

(The fact that I just whipped up an excessively simplistic browser this morning should go to show how focused I am...)

If I were more handy and had the time (just heading out the door) I'd do a Steampunk Browser. Probably start with Chrome and punk it up.

Ive's design philosophy is nearly the opposite of what you suggest... He designs products in such a way that if something is drawing attention to itself, it better have some important function and be obvious about what that is. And indeed the product as a whole has to be very obvious about what it does and how to control it. I can't blame Ive for someone telling him the optical drive and compliance with standard parts were no longer essential. If those are the rules he has to work with, he will design something like the retina MacBook Pro or the new iMac.

I'd settle for the new look and the option to select "classic" mode.
Meanwhile I've been using mountain tweeks.
Most of the options I select involved undoing
things they added in mountain lion.
(like leather strips and torn pages).
