Error downloading driver software

hi, i have been having trouble connecting my iphone 4 to my laptop. i have tried plugging into 2 seperate laptops. the error message i get when trying to connect is this, device driver software was not successfully installed. i tried removing the hardware and then plugging it in again but this does not work. i was wondering whether anybody knows what is the best thing for me to do to get it working again. my laptop runs off windows 7.

You have the latest version of iTunes installed? That's pretty much all you need..

yep i have the latest version of itunes that was the first thing i thought of. i havent got a clue what it would be. my works iphone 4 connects fine its just my personal one which i am having problems with
