Ok People this is the scenario I have a mac g4 and my keyboard is a standard keyboard for a pc but the keyboard is connected to the usb port. I want to reinstall OSX 10.3 but how do I do it?
If the OS doesn't recognize the keyboard during startup, but the system does boot,
then insert the os x install disc, go to system preferences and select startup disk. Then select the 10.3 disc as the startup disc. Restart…the 10.3 disc should become the startup disc. Then just follow the installer prompts.
If the system recognizes the keyboard at startup then forget all of the system preference stuff and just hold down on the "C" key during a restart. This will force the OS to startup from the 10.3 disc. Then just follow the installer prompts.
If it was an apple keyboard then all you would have to do is hold down the c key.
The problem with third party keyboards is that the OS doesn't recognize the keyboard until the driver is loaded, by then it is too late to boot from the cd. If that is your case then you will have to use the other option that I suggested (setting the cd as the startup disc). When you restart it should restart from the cd without holding the c key.
I would first try just holding down the c key and see if it will recognize it…maybe you will be in luck.
