In iTunes Store > Purchased, songs I've paid to download over the years are listed. Next to some of the songs it indicates "Downloaded" and will not allow me to re-download the song.

However, other songs indicate the "cloud icon" next to them and it will allow me to re-download them.

Why do some say "downloaded" while others have the "cloud"?

Here's a screen shot:

I know little of iTunes, but since no one else is trying...

You are talking about being in the iTunes store, right?

You can use iCloud & iTunes Match to help manage all of your purchases:
Apple - iCloud - All your music on all your devices.

There is a solution to download all of the songs on page 1 & 2 of the following thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3502104

You may wish to read the entire thread.

Thanks for responding, but I don't use iTunes Match. These are just songs in my "Purchased History" that show up as DOWNLOADED or CLOUD.

Doesn't the DRM prevent the media from being on more than a certain number of devices at one time? Maybe someone can clarify that question...does Apple Extreme have to remove the songs from other devices?

Anyhow, if you follow the links, there IS a way to get all of your songs.
