Hi everyone,
I currently have a 2010 mac mini that has the dvd drive but still the same aesthetic as the most current model. It has 4gb of ram installed and I've learned that anything less than that is pretty unuseable unless all you do is browse the net.

I'm looking to buy another mac mini which is a 2011 model on ebay that seems like a good deal and it has 2gb of ram. Are the ram modules in both models compatible with eachother?

I ask this because I would like to put my 4gb of ram in the new model and put the 2gb of ram in the model in the old one and give this computer to my mother. I've never installed ram before but it looks very easy on these mac minis.

Thanks for the help!

The 2011 Mini uses faster memory than the 2010 model. The modules are not interchangeable.

The 2011 models however are easily upgraded mind you, just make sure if you go that route, get at least 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM and a few memory vendors have Mac certified memory that was tested in accordance with Apple themselves to ensure it'll work correctly.
