Moving Files to Trash without user ID

When I first started to use my Macbook Pro, I'd be able to move files into Trash. The Trash can would fill, and I could empty it. But lately when I try to move to Trash, I get prompted for my user ID. After entering it, the file is deleted, and the Trash can does not appear to be filled. Is there some user permissions parameter that I may have accidentally changed? I'm on Mac OS 10.7

Thanks.

I found the answer posted in the Apple Support Communities. Here it is:

A fix for this has now been found. The reason why this is happening is because the .Trash folder has changed ownership to root. The fix simply requires ownership of the folder being put back to you. Open Terminal and run the following command: (replace "yourusername" with the name of your home folder)

sudo chown yourusername .Trash

This should resolve the problem without having to create new user profiles etc.
