Apple Maps for OSX

Is there a map app based on the new Apple Maps for OSX?

No there isn't one since Macs don't come with GPS chips there'll never be one either..

No but is there any particular reason you want Apple Maps on the Mac? There are plenty of other fine (and accurate) map applications available through the browser or as stand alone applications.

The issue is the latest Apple Maps. They are a better quality than what Google provides for rural Africa.

It would be great to have an app like Apple Earth (for the lack of a better expression) that utilises the current updated Apple maps

AHh..I see what you meant, well the Apple maps data is not a generally available system for others to use. Google, Mapquest and other mapping services allow 3rd parties to use their maps data to create customized maps and so on. Apple uses their maps data exclusively within their application and will most likely never release that to 3rd parties.

Also, I doubt there is a high enough demand for a desktop version to use the Apple maps data for Apple to create a version for OS X. However, Google and other services update their maps routinely so it might get better as time goes on..

Have you seen if Bing Maps does a good enough job in rural Africa?

The iOS 6 mapping application makes use of OpenStreetMaps for some, but not all, of their data. You could try that as well.
