My box: iMac running a very very very slow snow leopard either on regular mode or safe mode (colorwheel is all the time because errors and segmentation faults related with spotlight); back-up under this premises is literally imposible.
I want to use single-user mode, mount an external hard drive and move the files.
I have tried to follow the commands below with no luck. The problem in this case being with the launchtcl command giving an error: "launch_msg(): Socket is not connected"
fsck -yf
mount -uw /
launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.notifyd.plist
launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.kextd.plist
mkdir /tmp/usbvolume
mount_hfs /dev/disk1s2 /tmp/usbvolume
