If you're using the HTML5 version of YouTube, you'll lose fullscreen functionality since it is impossible to have full screen video delivered through an HTML5 player. If this is the case, go here, leave the HTML5 beta and enjoy full screen video delivered through Flash.

The Flash based video player, which will be used if you're not in the HTML5 beta, should have no issue going fullscreen. What browser are you using? Have you tried another one?

What happens when you try to fullscreen the video in Safari?

Yes, please do provide a screenshot.

If YouTube is set to use the Flash player, it should look the same regardless of the browser being used.

That's not the Flash player. It looks like you've got ClickToFlash installed which, if I remember correctly, will play the H.264 version through QuickTime. Disable this functionality in the preferences for ClickToFlash.

You access it through your browser. In Safari, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions. You should be able to configure it there.
