My imac osx desktop is loading slowly. We recently changed from a "hub" to a new internet provider using Ymax. All the other computers load very quickly, but mine is slower than it was with the Hub. Is there a solution to this? Thanks for your help.

Your internet provider has nothing to do with the speed that your desktop loads. It does have to do with the speed your browser loads web pages though, is that what you're referring to?

Yes, the solution is to check the DNS settings. Your new internet provider has likely given you a new router or router - modem. The router probably has been pre-programmed with their DNS servers. You can change those, however, to ones of your choice.

Open System Preferences, Network on the iMac. Click on the "advanced" button at the bottom right. Now click on the DNS tab at the top. Copy down what it says and post it back here in your reply. Note... the numbers may be grayed out, but that's OK. Post it anyway.

OK, that's the setting for your router. Your new ISP must be assigning the servers automatically. You can override the settings and use your own.

Do this: In that same box you found the 192.168.209.1 numbers, press the small plus sign at the bottom of the box and enter this number sequence:

8.8.8.8.

Press OK.

Press the small plus sign again and enter these numbers:

8.8.4.4.

Press OK again, then escape your way out of System Preferences, Network.

Those numbers are the Google Public DNS servers which are free to use and may provide some speed up over what you new ISP is using. Let us know if they help.

Entering the DNS server number sequence that you suggested has signifcantly increased the speed that the web pages load. Thankyou for your assistance.
