Since upgrading to 10.8.2 my MBA with only 2GB RAM often freezes, also I can't run Parallels without RAM falling into the red (Using FreeMemory app).
Is it due to Mountain Lion? Will I have to get a new MBA with more RAM and will this solve the problem?

Depending on what exact model MBA you have, it may well handle either 4GB or 8GB of memory maximum which will give you quite a boost. The very first model released in 2008 can only handle that 2GB limit. Alas you cannot upgrade memory in your MBA so your options are limited.

So it's just coincidence this happened within a day of installing 10.8.2?

No, it is not due to Mountain Lion.

I agree with Chas if you were running Lion before ML.
What version of OSX were you running before Mountain Lion? If it was Lion, I in fact find ML better at memory usage than Lion at least here on my iMac.

If it was Snow Leopard then more RAM would be used. 2gb is a small amount for really modern OS's depending on how many things you try to run at the same time.

Yeh, it was 10.7.4

To **** with it, ordered a MBA 13" 8GB RAM. Parallels/XP Pro should be OK with that.
