Can't insert disc into MacBook Pro

Super Newbie first time question here: I can't insert a disk into my new laptop's drive. I posed question to help menu and online, but no luck, help!

The Macbook Pro uses a slot-loading optical drive, you have to insert the media a good amount in before it's sucked in. If you are doing that, describe exactly what is happening?

Could there be a disk in already? Try ejecting whatever is in there to see if something is already there.
