USB device drawing too much power

Hi there, I've being having a window showing every 15 to 30 sec that says ( Because a USB device was drawing to much power, one or more of your devices were deactivated) I don't have any thing plug in to my USB ports. I have tried repairing permissions, repairing disk, reinstall software "mountain lion", and nothing seems to work. What should I try next?

Have you tried rebooting the computer?

Hi Nick, I have tried that too.

You could try using a program called "Onyx" (free):

Titanium's Software • Download

It's a maintenance program…which does some of the things you've already tried (repairing permissions)…as well as:

- running maintenance scripts (same as Apple's maintenance scripts)
- clearing out caches
- removing cookies
- etc.

Just run Onyx's preset activities (a 1-button click)…and let it do it's thing. Hopefully this will fix things.

I ran the program and didn't work, any other suggestions?

Try a SMC reset - link.

So I tried SMC reset and didn't work. I just finish erasing the hard drive and installing everything again and that window just pop up again. what is the most drastic solution I can do to stop that?

Try resetting the PRAM. If that doesn't work, it may be a hardware problem.

Is not the Keyboard and the Trackpad part of the USB Bus? Maybe an issue with one of them going bad and drawing too much. Either that or the USB ports/Controller on the board.

That's what I'm thinking also Dennis. If the PRAM reset doesn't get the ports working again, it's likely something to do with a hardware failure. The controller like you said is suspect, especially when the bus has been overdrawn.

Well, I tried everything. I want to thank you all for your help, you guys are great and I learned a lost from you. Now its time to take it to have it check for hardware.

I ment to say I learned a lot from you guys.
