Connecting via USB Hub

I have bought a Mac Book Pro Retina, great machine.
I have tried to connect 2 printers and an external HD via a hub.
They all connect directly, but not through the hub.
Do I need to set something or is it not possible to do this?

There's no reason why it wouldn't work. But you will need a very good quality, independently powered USB hub.

It is sorted now, I networked the two printers, the Macbook Pro and the Mac Mini with an Airport Extreme. All working through a 7 port USB hub. Good job!
