Macbook Pro 2006 Express Card Slot....

I have a Macbook Pro 2006 running osx 10.6

I just bought an 'express card' SD card reader. My keyboard on the computer is dead so I use a usb mouse and keyboard. When I put the card reader in the USB ports don't work. Then when I manually eject the express card the computer restarts.

Anyone know whats going on?
