OS 10.7.5 Supplemental Update

Since I updated to OS 10.7.5 this morning my time machine has quit working, referring to failed back-up because of read-only files.
Has anyone had a similar experience and can you suggest what I should to do overcome it (bearing in mind that I an a technohobe?)

Restore from your Time Machine backup, run maintenance utilities (NOT MACKEEPER!!) and try again.
