• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What is the current situation with FP on the Mac? Is it still a crock, if so what is the best way to simply view YouTube? I have tried downloading HTML5 but am too dumb to comprehend how to implement it or how it helps- does it run with Flash or does it replace Flash? Which flavour of HTML5 Video Player is simplest?

Since upgrading to 10.8.2 there's the chance to make a fresh start with video on YouTube; can someone school me?

You don't "download HTML5" -- it is a web technology, not an app.

You can simply install a Safari extension (or Firefox extension if you use that) to automatically change the default YouTube player to HTML5.

You can also (and should) keep your Flash up-to-date on your Mac. Latest version came out yesterday.

Better yet, simply join the HTML5 beta here - saves you the trouble of installing anything.
