We have two identical iMacs, EXCEPT one is using OS 10.6.8, and the other is using OS 10.4.11.

We are attempting to share the same Canon iP4200 printer via wireless airport connection.

The computer with OS 10.6.8 is connecting to the printer successfully.

On the other computer, the printer setup window does not recognize the airport and continues to indicate "connected directly via USB"

I am assuming the difference is the newer driver on the 10.6.8 computer. That driver is not compatible with the other computer.

Is there any way, short of completely updating the OS, to get the 10.4.11 to recognize the airport?

It may not only be a matter of the newer driver used in Snow Leopard, but it may also be the airport card in the machine using Tiger is not compatible with the Canon wireless receiver in the printer. Older airport cards are compatible with 802.11b only whereas the Canon iP4200 printer probably requires at least 802.11g. Perhaps someone else can chime in here with additional info.
