Hi everyone,

My 4-5 year old macbook pro recently fried from water damage and I have already ordered a new one since I was in need anyways. My water damaged one will cost $700 to fix and I'm not sure if its even worth it. I have all of my data backed up so not worried about that but of course would like to remove my hard drive anyways so it doesn't end up in the wrong hands. If I did repair it would it be worth more than $700? I bought it for $1700 4-5 years ago, it has some outdated programs like photoshop, aperture, microsoft office '04 etc, and still is on the OS that came before snow leopord...whichever that one was...
fairly scratched up on bottom and a couple dents on it from being dropped...
Any suggestions? Should I just remove the hard drive and sell the parts? Thanks in advance!!!!

Remove the HDD and advertise it for parts on an auction site such as eBay as parts only. Might raise a few dollars towards the cost of the replacement. If you have the Office 2004 advertise those as well. A new machine will require a later version of Office, 2011 being the current offering.

Is that so? On my Windows 7 machine I run Office XP, which I greatly prefer to the later offerings. The "ribbon" menu bar system is an abomination.

It was much improved in 2010/2011 and is actually quite usable, although you do have to give it a fair shake.

The Ribbon can be turned off completely in Mac Office 2011 and it will look just like previous versions of Office. Also, the Ribbon in Office 2010 for Windows can be modified so the menus will resemble Office XP. In case you're wondering, I have both versions....

Well, I feel no need to lash out more money to MS when the product I bought years ago still amply meets my needs. On Mac I just use OpenOffice, which I rather like.
