i have a 2008 macbook and since i put mountian lion on it it is slow as crap!! what can i do to make it faster ,should i add 8g of memory can i even do that?

Macbook identifier? You can see it in About this mac/More info/System report. Even better, post a screenshot of the window.
As long as I know you can't add more than 4 Gb of memory if it's a Macbook or Macbook Pro, but giving more info will help us see for sure.
I would suggest you go back to Snow Leopard or install an SSD or both if you want a really good computer.

could it be Spotlight reindexing after the upgrade? That took a long time on my MBP, but the machine got back to being really quick once it was done.
