As noted in the links, Mountain Lion doesn't support your Mac Pro and making it work might not be for the faint of heart. Your Mac Pro is completely capable of running Lion without any problems and should be able to do so for a long time until you decide to upgrade.

Any reason you are trying to jump through hoops to get Mountain Lion instead?

I want to be able to take advantage of the next version of ProTools, which is hopefully going to be 64-bit. .

I believe it's the lack of 64-bit support that is preventing you from running Mountain Lion in the first place, if that is a high priority for you, you might want to look into selling your current Mac Pro and purchasing a new (or newer) model which is 64-bit to support both Mountain Lion and ProTools..
