After doing a periodic up date to OS Mail will not function.

OS is now 10.6.8 and Mail is 4.5

Any help appreciated, thanks.

You need to update your Mail application. Now that you have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed, select software update from your Apple menu and that will load the Mac App store. From there you should be able to download what updates you need for 10.6.8 including Mail.

I'm having the same problem

I have the exact same problem and I tried using the software update, but it's just telling me no updates are available right now. Any other suggestions? I'm not sure if it matters, but I currently don't have the install disk either.

Thanks

My poorly paid Mac expert is working on a solution to this problem. Should know this afternoon.
In my case suspect problem was caused because "Mail' icon was on my desktop when OS 10 was updated. If the update included an update for "Mail" it may have not found a proper place to put it.

If the icon for mail that was on your desktop had a small arrow attached to it, that meant it was an "alias" or shortcut to the mail application. If you moved mail to your desktop the icon would have no arrow and that could be the reason you never received the update.

The solution to that is to download the combined update for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and your Mail program will be restored. Let us know.

Still no luck

I moved my 'mail' app from the desktop to 'applications' and redownloaded the 10.8.6 update, but 'mail' still responded with an error afterwards.

You have to download the combined update. Did you download the combined update or just the one for 10.6.8? The combined update can be downloaded from here.

It seems my iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core2Duo 24 inch cannot use OS 10.8 Mountain Lion.

You might check "EveryMac.com" as they have an extensive list of compatibility.

Will give OS 10.7 a try and see if that helps. If it does will post a report.

Yes, it was the combined update that I downloaded which didn't fix the problem. And Everymac.com shows that my 2.53 GHz Core 2 Duo MacbookPro is capable of using OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. Mail just still won't work.

I believe I used the combined 10.6.8 update and that did not help. Have since downloaded OSX 10.7 Lion and all is well. the "mail" program with it has a different look but sure seem natural in a few days.

Wish to thank everyone for their help.

The mail that goes with it is better and I assume it has other features I will discover as I use it.
Worth the money.

Drew,

One caveat my MS Word (Office suite) for Mac does not work with OS 10.7.
