I never hear about this problem because my password is over 8 letters
but my friend who is new on Imac just called me

the wifi network that my friend use has password which was 7 letters
and when he typed the password on Airport Connection,
it appeared as grey which he couldn't click to "join"

but if he type something else to make it 8 letters or more
the "join" button will turn to black and he could click to "join"
I told him then to try changing the password to something longer than 7 letters
but he can't because he is not the owner of that router

Does anyone have solution?
or Imac was lock to have password which was 8 letters + only?

ps * sorry for my English, i'm not native speaker

I didn't think anything short of 8 characters was even a valid password. Not sure how your friend setup that network with the password. What sort of security is it? WEP, WPA/2, PSK..??
