Virtual Box has been a great substitute for Parallels. But --- now I'm getting a message that 4.2 is available, and I don't see an update, just an install. Considering the hoops I had to jump through to get VB to recognize my flashdrive, I'm not willing to start over and do that again. Maybe I'm missing something on their website, but I don't see a place to update. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

The installer will do the updte for you. Once you install the new version, all of your previous VMs and settings should remain. Coincidently, it's all the USB issues I had with virtualbox that had me switch over to VMWare Fusion..

As Raz0r noted, the regular installer acts to upgrade an install.

What kinds of problems were you having with USB? Did you set the VMs up with an older version of VB? I only ask because Oracle removed USB support and put it in an extension pack. Installing that might ease your pain (the extension pack is on the download page).

Oh getting USB to work for me was quite a pain also. One of the things I had to do was reduce the number of processors to 1.

I have to give this a try tonight since I've never worked with USB in VBox. I hadn't realized that it was such a pain.

That worked nicely, thank you.

Love your handle!

I did install the extension pack, but still had to jump hoops. My iMac is less than a year old, and I'm now running Mountain Lion, which killed Parallels, which is a whole 'nother thread.

Thank you for your help.
