• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

iMac 27" late 2009, MacBook Pro
Hi all,

I am finding it impossible for my iMac to recognise my mini-dv camcorder. I believe I've been doing all the right things.

Specifically: Mac is an iMac intel 2.8 ghz core i7 with 16 gb RAM. Camera is a Sony DCR-PC 120E. I have connected with firewire to the above iMac (and also to my Macbook pro), but neither computer can "see" this camcorder. I also have the camera in playback mode and have tried both settings on the camera's menu A/V to DV OUT (OFF/ON). Neither Apple support nor Sony support have been able to help, basically blaming each other!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

I take it that you are rying to use iMovie or one of the Final Cut products to import with?

If I had a pound for each topic/thread that I've seen regarding problems importing from Sony miniDV camcorders, I'd be a rich man.
