Did you check your Applications folder? It's there. "Remote Desktop Connection.app"

Don't know what to tell you then. It's definitely there in the Applications folder in Mountain Lion.

I am sure the Remote desktop connection app is part of MS Office?

If you want to connect to the Ubuntu box (and it has a VNC system running) then add the screen sharing app to the doc
System:Library:CoreServices:Screen Sharing.app

Or download a VNC client application like Chicken of the VNC | Free software downloads at SourceForge.net

Nope. The package contents clearly show it's an Apple application. The reason it shows up in my applications folder is it was probably carried over from Snow Leopard in the upgrade to Lion and then to Mountain Lion.
